Here's a brief about the breed: The Royal Palm first appeared in the 1920s on a farm in Lake Worth, Florida, apparently as a cross between the Black, Bronze, Narragansett, and local turkeys. Years of selective breeding followed to stabilize the color, and the Royal Palm breed was finally accepted by the American Poultry Association's Standard of Perfection in 1971. In Europe, turkeys of similar color are sometimes called Krolitzer, Pied, or Black-spotted White.
The numbers of most heritage turkey breeds declined after the adoption of the "Broad Breasted White" in the turkey industry; the "Royal Palm" breed is considered endangered and is classified by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy as a "watch" species.
